Eating and Drinking
Our local pub is the Taigh Ailean Hotel, a short stroll from Glendale Cottage and Studio. It is open from 6-11pm every evening in the summer, serving Skye beers, a fine selection of malt whiskies, Scottish gins and tasty bar meals with a carry-out service offered too. Dog friendly, with a pool table, the Taigh Ailean is warm and welcoming and has great views of Loch Harport from the upstairs bar windows. (Winter opening hours are Friday and Saturday evening as well as lunch time plus evening on Sundays).
The Old Inn at Carbost is open all year round and serves excellent food and Skye beers in a cosy atmosphere. Look out for the music nights, lots of fun.
The Sligachan Hotel is about 20 minutes drive away and hosts its own micro brewery.
The Oyster Shed on the road from Carbost to Portnalong has a fabulous selection of fresh seafood and takeaway snacks. Open all year round it is definitely worth a visit.
And don’t forget to take a tour around Skye’s only whisky distillery, Talisker in Carbost.

Wildlife on Skye is abundant, varied and everywhere. From birds in the garden at the Cottage and Studio to the majestic golden eagle and stunning white tailed eagle, from the seal colony at Dunvegan to whales and dolphins around the coastline, from red deer to otters you will not be disappointed. With patience (and a bit of luck) you may see all of those on your own, but why not book a guided tour with Skye Wildlife and benefit from local knowledge of the best places to spot your favourite wildlife.
